Traveling Through Portugal - travel update thumbnail

Portugal's grape harvest is running at full tilt this month, and Alenquer's Alma do Vinho festival, September 17th through 20th, is timing itself right to the peak — pair it with a hands-on harvest morning at Adega Cartuxa near Évora if you want grape-stained hands to prove you were there. Up north, Ponte de Lima is marking the 200th anniversary of Feiras Novas (September 9th through 14th) with traditional folklore and accordion concerts that have barely changed in two centuries. On the coast, the quieter Praia de Monte Clerigo near Aljezur just got named Europe's best beach destination for 2026, a real alternative to the crowded Algarve strip further south. Porto, meanwhile, spent September 11th through 13th hosting Porto Pride, with a summit, the main parade, a drag brunch, and Douro River cruises rounding out the celebration. Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve, Sintra, Madeira, and more — this week's Social Travel News recap covers it all from real traveler footage.
